Road Rage Statistics show angry drivers are wreaking havoc on roads and threatening your Safety and Security while driving.

The Response Insurance Group of America produces regular "National Driving Habits Surveys".

Road Rage Facts.

Their study discovered the following:

  • 50% of drivers responded to aggression with aggression.

  • Of those that do

    ... 34% honk their horn.
    ... 27% rant and rave.
    ... 19% give "the finger".
    ... 17% flash their headlights.
    ... 7% retaliate with aggressive driving.
    ... 2% try to run the aggressor off the road.

  • Men are more likely to act aggressively than women (54% to 46%).

  • Young drivers (18-24) are more than twice as aggressive as older drivers over 65.

  • Drivers with children aboard respond much more aggressively.

  • Cell Phone users while driving are also much more likey to fly into a rage.

European insurer AXA believes "Road Rage or disrepectful driving is causing 800 deaths a year on (British) roads..." and that almost 40% of drivers invovled in accidents claimed to have been distracted, frightened or enraged by the aggressive actions of other drivers prior to the smash. 52% of all drivers had been on the receiving end of some form of abuse from aggressive drivers.

Bumper Sticker companies have been quick to zero in on this worrying phenomenon of extreme aggression on the road.

The message seems to be:

DON'T DRIVE AGGRESSIVELY

RESPECT OTHER DRIVERS

DON'T TAILGATE

OBEY ROAD RULES

DON'T MAKE OBSCENE GESTURES

DON'T SHOW YOU'RE ANGRY

DON'T RESPOND TO AGGRESSION

IT TAKES 2 TO START A FIGHT

STEER CLEAR OF AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS

IF FRIGHTENED USE A CELL PHONE TO CALL POLICE
