A 2012 Apocalypse that will end the Earth as we know it is predicted and feared by some, based on the fact the Mayan Calendar (also known as the Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar) draws to an end on 21st December, 2012.
What Is The Mayan Calendar?
This calendar was used by many civilizations in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica in areas of Central America and Mexico. The Mayan (and Aztec calendars) are the best refined, documented and understood.
The present Mayan calendar dates back 5,126 years to August 11, 3114 BC in the Gregorian calendar and is estimated to end December 21st, 2012.
The Mayans were mathematicians and astronomers, and developed an accurate, sophisticated calendar.
Will the World End in 2012?
Will the end of the Mayan calendar mean the "End of Days"? ... or will it simply usher in the start of a new calendar?
After all, when our calendar expires at midnight on the 31st of December don't we simply turn the page on a new calendar and welcome in a New Year?

So what to do in an Apocalypse 2012 Countdown?
Well, if you truly believe the world is going to end come December 21st 2012... then you might be tempted to apply for as many credit cards as you can get your hands on, and max them out... knowing you won't have to pay back your debts after the lights go out.
Alternatively, if you believe the prediction of a 2012 "End of Days" will come and go (just like the Year 2000K/ Millenium bug scare), you just might want to join in the celebrations as the "Mexico Mayan region launches apocalypse countdown"... AAP December 20 2011.
